Slow and Long – Color

No, I don’t think she’d be able to pull back into that shell. So instead, she runs away from predators. The world’s fastest turtle!

  1. Once, when I was babysitting a bunch of kids while they’re parents went on a bike ride in Itasca State Park, while driving through Itasca State Park, there was a giant snapping turtle in the middle of the road. We stopped the car and picked the turtle up to move it off the road. It was a moment when my anthropology professor almost became a castrati. They have long necks, and they are called snapping turtles for a reason. He quickly adjusted his hold so that his bits were no longer temptingly anywhere near the critters large and powerful jaws.

  2. I think it’s great how many niches turtle fit in to – tiny, giant, freshwater, sea going, soft shelled, vegetarian and vicious predator. Awesome.
