The Scarecrow is Beat

This is the second illustration of the 1955 version of Oz Squad. I’ve got no idea why the Scarecrow looks all Beat. He is a guy who pays attention to artistic and intellectual movements so I suppose it’s not surprising.

  1. My thought was that Scraps, who was still alive at this point (maybe) was into the whole Beat, socialist thing and dragged the Scarecrow along for the ride. In truth, the Scraps of those years was an attempt by the Scarecrow to duplicate the love of his life by repeating the process of her creation.

  2. Interesting. I’d wondered about the Patchwork Girl that appeared in that 1955 flashback. I’d inferred that Scraps had been killed by Munchausen in WW2 but, as I’ve looked at the material in the years since, I’ve realized that it never says when her death took actually took place.
