Autumn 1871 – The Revelations of Gavil Y Rook

“The Father says that if I am good, if I am very very good, my Lord God will cleanse me of my sin and my ugliness will fall away. God will make me beautiful.”

I reached for Gavil’s hand and held it for a minute before speaking. “The Father is lying to you, Gavil. The god that he speaks of does not exist.”

Gavil narrowed her eyes. “That’s not true. I’ve spoken to God. He told me to obey the Father.”
