Summer 1945 – The Loa of Patient Greed


Antoine D’Urberville was impeccably dressed. His suit was pressed and spotless. His shirt appeared to be freshly ironed. His face was scrubbed and no sweat beaded on his brown. His hair was perfectly combed and oiled. No dust or dirt seemed to have touched him. That he managed such a feat, ten miles into the jungle and halfway up a mountain, no doubt impressed the soldiers who surrounded us.
