I took my foot off the gas and let the automobile coast to a stop. The shape in the road gleamed white in the headlights. It raised a head and its deep set eyes reflected back a dark red. It moved toward me with a motion that was half hop and half knuckle walking like an ape. It stopped about ten feet from the auto. It settled into a sitting position in the middle of the narrow road.
I had to assume that I would be late for my dinner with Cousin June.
