Desiree shook her head. She said, “I haven’t slept in three days. I can’t. If I do, she will come back. I’ve got no say in what she does anymore.”

“Do you know where she would go if she were to return?” I asked. 

Desiree focused her bloodshot eyes on me. She said, “She’ll come to wherever you are.”
