Autumn 1978 – A Rooster From Hell

Lilly moved the curtain aside just enough to see the yard. She pulled it shut almost instantly. She put her hand over her eyes. She said, “Jesus. We’re surrounded. There’s got to be a couple hundred of them out there.”

Peter picked up his bottle of beer. He said, “They’re just chickens. Why the hell are we afraid of chickens? We eat chickens every damned day.”

Lilly grabbed the beer from his hand. “And now they’re eating us. That’s a good blessed reason to be afraid!”
